Elephant-shaped boulders in the Kolab river, a favourite riverside picnic.
Hathipathar — literally 'elephant rock' — is a stretch of the Kolab river strewn with huge, rounded boulders said to resemble bathing elephants. Water threads between them in channels and pools, and the banks are a much-loved picnic spot for families from Jeypore and Koraput.
It's shallow and gentle in the dry months and powerful after rain, so take local advice before going near the water.
