Stand on Odisha’s rooftop at 1,672 m — watch the Eastern Ghats wake under a sea of clouds, then hike grassy ridges that feel a world away from the plains.
Deomali is the rooftop of Odisha, rising to about 1,672 metres in the Chandragiri-Pottangi range of the Eastern Ghats. On clear winter mornings the valleys below fill with cloud, and the sunrise from the summit is one of the most beautiful sights in eastern India.
The drive up winds through coffee slopes, pepper vines and sal forest before opening onto grassy ridges and dramatic drop-offs. It's a favourite for trekking, camping and stargazing, and remains refreshingly uncrowded compared with India's better-known hill stations.
